Estimator
About Oeler Industries, Inc.
Oeler Industries, Inc. is seeking an Estimator for commercial and industrial projects. Oeler Industries, Inc. was founded in 1997 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with a mission to provide the best acoustic products and services in the industry. With nearly 30 years in business, Oeler Industries has built a reputation as the go-to acoustic experts across a variety of industries and use cases. Our products and services can be found in a myriad of establishments across the country, and around the world.
Acoustics is all we do. We work with architects, engineers, designers and general contractors, and we exist to make lives better.
What you'll love about us
We are a family-run business, and we believe the company is here for our employees and their families. Expect a close-knit, casual, flexible and fast-paced environment, at a company poised for a new generation of growth.
Who we're seeking
We're looking for someone who catches what others miss: the panel left off a schedule, the room missing from the finish plan, the dimension that doesn't add up. You take pride in a count that's right the first time, and you deliver it on deadline.
The role
The Estimator turns drawings into quantities. Most of the job is finding, counting and measuring off commercial drawing sets: acoustic panels, wall and ceiling areas, and sound masking zones. The rest is deciding which bids to pursue, measuring rooms in the field, and handing complete estimates to the rest of the team.
This is a full-time seat reporting to the COO. You own the quantities and labor days. You read the whole spec, not just the section we were invited on, so every acoustic scope in the job gets priced. You do not set prices, sell, or manage installs.
What you'll do
Takeoffs fill most of the week. The standard is every estimate out within 2 days of assignment, with quantities that hold up when the job is built.
Work | Share of a typical week | What it involves |
|---|---|---|
Takeoffs | about 70% | Count and measure from drawings and specs: how many, what size, what finish, and the labor days to install |
Bid intake | about 10% | Log each invitation to bid in HubSpot, decide bid or no-bid with a reason, and set the due date |
Field measurement and site visits | about 10% | Measure existing rooms, check conditions and confirm dimensions on jobsites around Pittsburgh. |
Handoffs and follow-through | about 10% | Bills of materials for new orders, estimate packages to Sales Support, and estimate-versus-actual reviews on closed jobs |
What you bring
We hire for accuracy and follow-through. Acoustics is taught on the job.
Required
- 2 or more years reading commercial construction drawings, in estimating, takeoff, drafting, project coordination or interior installation work
- Experience with a digital takeoff tool such as Bluebeam, PlanSwift, On-Screen Takeoff, or another suitable method (for example, we use Morpholio Trace for iPad and can train you on it).
- Quick, careful math with areas, counts and units, and working skill in Excel
- Comfort on active jobsites: a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and the ability to climb a ladder and measure a room
- Clear written notes that someone else can pick up and use
Preferred
- Estimating or installing acoustic wall panels or other interior finishes
- Estimating installation labor in crew days
- Familiarity with iPad, macOS and HubSpot
If you like detailed, predictable work and want numbers you can stand behind, you will like this job.
How we work
We hire, review and promote on five core values. Here is what each looks like in this job.
Core value | In this job |
|---|---|
People | Sales, Engineering and the client's team are partners. A no-bid goes back with a reason. |
Intelligence | We don't guess. Quantities come from the drawings, and labor days from field experience. Attention to detail and discipline are mission-critical. |
Trust | Others use your numbers without rechecking them, and the HubSpot record matches what happened. The senior field team relies on your output. |
Commitment | The date you give is the date you deliver. |
Passion | You care about solving the whole acoustic problem. If the spec calls for something we carry, it makes it into the estimate. |
Pay, schedule and location
The base salary is $60,000, with a quarterly performance bonus that keeps paying above goal.
- Bonus: paid quarterly on a scorecard of estimate accuracy, turnaround and bid coverage.
- Schedule: full-time and hybrid, based in Pittsburgh, with site visits around the region.
- Reviews: your numbers go on a weekly scorecard, and you meet with the COO each quarter.
How to apply
Send your résumé and a few sentences about the most detailed takeoff you have done to [email protected]. Finalists complete a short takeoff exercise from one of our drawing sets.
